Classic Ween Moment at the Turf Club 06.18.11
This was the Ween show I’ve been waiting for. Even though it was an acoustic set sans Deaner, it was epic and awesome. The video above is from a clear highlight of the night. Ween brought up a local saxophone player, Geoff Matson, to join them for “Your Party”. We had made friends with Geoff’s friends during the show.. one of which was wearing a sweet tap your ass shirt with a purple headband and he was clearly not with us. You’ll get a feel of the crowd during the sax solo. Epic.

Sampler Service | Weekend Girls
The SOS Band’s song Weekend Girl (video below) is a classic slow jam about a horny dude and a prude lady discussing whether they are going to be getting it on tonight or during the weekend. Cam’ron decided he loved that idea (kinda surprised he’s the first) and used that sample to remake the song (track above) from his perspective, trying to work a one night stand.
Strange part is the guy who DJ’d our wedding decided to play this song as the first slow song. I’m not bugged that he played it… I just question the timing… this song seems more appropriate for the last slow song, when grandma has gone home, drunkards have taken the floor and irresponsible love making is in the air.
Or maybe he just knows us that well.
Jam of the Week | For Love I Come by Thundercat
Former Suicidal Tendencies bassist, now known as Thundercat, is releasing The Golden Age of the Apocalypse later this year… this jams kinda follows this/last years trend of the downtempo movement… more spacey and soulful with a nice jazz break to close it out.
RIYL: James Blake, Amon Tobin
Whatever You Want (G.O.O.D. Music Remix) - Consequence ft. KanYe West, John Legend, Common, KiD CuDi, Big Sean
The pop chart on the Hype Machine is en fuego today… this song… a mix of everything good… is a highlight.
Recommended New Music: Guadalupe Plata
Get the White Stripes and the Black Lips to have a love child that is raised by a Spaniard and released for free on bandcamp and you have this album. Yeah… it’s free!
Happy Mother’s Day Mom!
I saw you were super excited about your new underwater music action, so I made you two swimming playlists.
SWIM is a bunch of songs that I’d thought would be fun to swim to. SWIM 3/4 is a bunch of songs in waltz time. When I was thinking about swimming to music I kept swaying like a waltz… 1-2-3,1-2-3… so I made a mix of songs in 3/4 timing. It made me sea sick while I was making it, so hopefully it will help you swim.
I know you are used to CDs, but your underwater player doesn’t take CDs, so I made you digital playlists.
Just click here to download them and then upload them to your itunes and drop them onto your player. Don’t worry, they are on my server, so they are safe!
I love you mom!
Michael and The Moonlight #1
Earlier this year I got word of a Phil Spector inspired musical collective project called Michael and The Moonlight. I was lucky enough to attend the “wall of sound” session at Waterbury Studio in NE Mpls featuring 12 of Minneapolis’s finest crammed into a one room to record some beautiful songs.
Here’s a clip from the recording of what’s temporarily named “Koopa Troopa”.
