My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 9 Kyoto | Our schedule and budget has opened up the door to discovering the beautiful world of convenience store food. To our ignorant American taste buds, this cheap Japanese food tastes better than any roller dog ever could. I’m not really showing a great example of the awesome selection available… I highly recommend the 7-11 seaweed salad.
My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 8 Kyoto | For our last night in Kyoto, we treated ourselves to a traditional dinner in our Ryokan. This a room service deluxe. These ladies in kimonos come in, turn your room into a dining room and serve you shit ton of food. Lisa had the kieseki and I had the shabushabu.

My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 7 Kyoto | My generous relatives are trying to make us fat by having us taste everything there is to taste. As you can see we have a huge serving of sushi along with a variety of sides.
My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 7 Kyoto | We found an organic restaurant over the strip of the Nishiki Food Market near our hotel. Pictured… Salad with sesame dressing, not sure what’s next to it, but it was good, miso soup, potato salad, peppers with flavored rice, onigiri with dried seaweed and onions, tsukemono. Perfect lunch.

My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 6 Kyoto | My Japanese relatives, Yuko and Yoichi treated us to a filling meal of okonomiyaki… it’s like a hash pancake, but with cabbage, egg, onion, and whatever meat you choose. Back on the delicious train.
My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 6 Kyoto | After our rough food day… our food adventure took a break… at Shakey’s all you can eat italian buffet! They had ann odd mix of “italian” food with japanese appetizers. This plate features bile flavored noodles, potato chunks and pepperoni & onion pizza, with a side of ginger salad and noodles, and a coke.
My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 5 Nara, Land of the Deers | We hit up another izakaya for dinner that had a hot tub with live fish in it for you can catch and eat… I had seafood soba… Lisa had another rough meal… it was like a chicken burger with a side of fully shelled prawn… not yummy.
My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 5 Kyoto | We jinxed ourselves by saying, “all the food is good here, let’s go to the first place we see” and had two pretty average meals yesterday… Lisa’s were both worse than mine… for lunch… we stopped at some place that looked like it served omelettes… it did… but wierd gravy omelettes… everything had gravy on it… i had steak and gravy… mine wasn’t too bad.
