Got my Free (replacement) Headphones Today!

It’s not often that I whore my blog out for product plugging, but this one is worth it. I bought a pair of Skullcandy Earbuds because I heard the sound was awesome for the price ($20) and that they replaced your headphones if they broke. They broke, in about 2 months. Gambling on this replacement guarantee, I bought another pair and sent in my other ones. My current earbuds have lasted about 4 months now and my replacement buds just came in. Cheers to Skullcandy for being a smart company.

Second Hand Sureshots - a look into a digger’s life

This week only, Pitchfork is streaming Secondhand Sureshots. This is a must see for dj’s and record collectors about a handful of Stone’s Throw beatmakers’ quest for a good sample.

From the site - Secondhand Sureshots is a filmed experiment in creative sound recycling. Dublab Dublab directors Bryan “Morpho” Younce & Mark “frosty” McNeill sent beatmakers Daedelus, Nobody, J.Rocc and Ras G on safari into L.A. thrift stores with orders to make new music out of five finds while the cameras filmed the whole process. The result is a mini-documentary about putting new life into old vinyl. Over 2 hours of footage, music & bonus material.

Nostalgic Jazzy Mixtape from Blu(e)

I just came upon this mixtape from underground hip-hop hero, Blu, out of Inglewood, CA. It’s not often you hear a conceptual hip-hop mixtape and if you do, it’s tone doesn’t usually provoke a feel of the golden age of hollywood. This is not at all your typical MC mixtape. There’s a nice balance between the beats, the samples and Blu on the mic. It’s not often you hear a mixtape that includes samples from jazz classics like Billie Holiday and Getz and Gilberto sprinkled with some raunchy dialogues from the movie Closer.

Answer to question #1: NO. Old baseball players and media people hate cheaters. Sammy’s cheating and chest pounding days with the Cubs were bely bely good to me, but I will take joy in winning $100 from Don when he doesn’t make it to the hall.

Answer #2: Great Great Great question… I have spent many many many minutes discussing this with wise sportsmen throughout the midwest of America. I have emailed Andy Roddick and his manager… and this is one question that the google machine cannot answer. Answer: Oh My Gahd… This is not even a question. It is deeply upsetting to know that you wanted to spend our anniversary in Duluth fighting. Answer: Whhoooaaaaa… this is the most exciting and most difficult question I’ve ever had to answer ever in the entire history of internet. I know my mom thinks of me as Alex P. Keaton. I love doing the Season 6 Rudy Cosby dance, and whenever I’m really happy I like to strut like George Jefferson, but I think I’m going to have to go with Growing Pains’ Richard Milhouse Stabone. As much as I’m a fan of Michael Seaver, I’d have to say that I wouldn’t really want to live at the Seaver house, especially ben. Even though the garage room is really cool, being Boner gives you all of the benefits of the Seaver house and I’d get kicked out before any of the bullshit goes down.

Reed Young | One of PDN’s 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch

Congratulations to our friend Reed (one of Lisa’s Irondale besties) for being recognized as one of Photo District News’ 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch. It’s been cool being around to watch Reed’s portfolio grow with always diverse and beautifully captured content and hearing his stories about all of the subjects of his photography.

As Reed calls out in his bio, his teen slacker mode forced him to use Lisa’s high school photography portfolio to apply for his first step in becoming the great photographer he is today. You’ll see from his site that slacker mode is long gone, as he’s traveled the world finding beauty in every day people and situations.

Here’s a quote from the PDN article: “Life is fascinating and photography is my excuse to see as many sides of the bigger picture as I can. I’d like my work to represent the huge contrast of human perspective.”

Those of you that know me, know that I’m totally weirded out by Wisconsin. This appropriately shitty logo only reinforces those feelings.

What visually defines your state? Well apparently a dude doing a craaaaazy handstand is how they “live like you mean it” in Wisconsin.

I guess it makes me happy to know that Wisconsin wears it’s weird with pride.

Exploration of Beatles music through infographics

Graphic designer, Michael Deal, is leading an ongoing project to study the music of the Beatles in stats. The infographic above shows Authorship and Collaboration. I’m happy to see that my favorite Beatles albums, Rubber Soul and Sgt Pepper’s, were made in high times of collaboration. The downfall of the Beatles is evident in the lack of collaboration as only 5 songs from The White Album and Let It Be were collaborative efforts.

Other infographics include, Self Reference, a chart that shows how the Beatles reference their own songs in their songs, Song Keys, mapping albums by the Circle of Fifths, and Working Schedule, which breaks down months and years according to Recording, Filming and Performing.

This is an awesome site for any Beatles psycho. Thanks Denny!

if you are talking about your butt, it’s probably because your pants are too small. i can understand this problem as trends lean towards a mix of the bagginess of the 90s and the tightness of the 70s which leads to a tight low riding, crack revealing pant that isn’t really flattering to most people.

if you are talking about the earth’s moon, it’s because of a full moon or a moon in the new phase when it’s closest to the earth. only in those positions is the moon’s reflection of the sun strong enough to shine during the day. I learned this from the Google which has magical internet powers.

Update: My lovely and brilliant wife reminded me that I’ve learned this from her, not the Google machine.

There is no direct correlation between chest hair and awesome hockey skills. You have to remember, Pat Kane is a 12 year old badass. In my experience, I’ve found hair usually starts appearing on your chest in the mid twenties.
