Tiger Woods Disc Golf Review by a Disc Golf Nerd
So I’m currently a gimp after having surgery on my right shoulder, leaving me without a winter of disc golf. I did a significant amount of research in the Tiger Woods disc golf game for the Wii to get my winter disc golf fix only to find a few PDGA d-bags in a forum circle jerk about nothing. My nerdiness should be self evident in the fact that i’m spending time to write this… and i took pictures… ok enough… on to the review.
This is not the disc golf video game of your dreams. Your speed and control is limited and you are playing on golf courses… Yeah so, it’s ok. I mean… disc golf nerds should be happy that this exists… it’s good for the game, your hip grandma will know what you are talking about when you say you went disc golfing… blah blah blah. The game play… meh… like every wii game, they make you a lot better than you are (a lot easier than it is… i shot par my first round… left handed).
Driving - highly limited. Driving is one of the things that will set you apart in disc golf. When I look at pro players drive, I quickly realize that I’ll never be a pro. In TG10 disc golf, your drives are mostly capped at 150 yards of which you can consistently hit every time. I tried to really heave it a few times (full scissor step and all) and the motion plus is not to fond of that and it just bogs down and starts you shot over. So again with every wii game, I found out that doing a shortened version of the drive (standing wrist snap) gets you the biggest bang for your buck… however, I did have better control when I did a full stroke.
Mid Range - a little hokey. Like the drive, your mid-range game is capped off at 75 yards. Consistently throwing from 20-50 yards was practically impossible. I found myself in many sand traps at this range.
Putting - way to easy. Putting is the other element of real disc golf that sets you apart. I didn’t count my putts today, but I’d imagine it was somewhere in the low 20s… and that includes the times when I clanked 1 yard putts 20 yards from the basket getting used to the controls.
Yeah… so overall, I’d give this mini-game a 5/10… I haven’t tried the real part of the game yet… whatta nerd.
