October Movie Recommendations

So I’m going to skip telling you to go see movies in the theater because you already know what’s good (Inglorious Bastards, Where the Wild Things Are, This is it are highly recommended), but here’s a couple odd ball rentals we ran across this month.

Aurora Borealis

Yes this is a feel good coming of age movie about reconnecting with your family starring Pacey, but it’s touching and… here’s the big plus… it’s all filmed in the Twin Cities… eh? eh? I’d only really recommend this movie to Twin Cities lovers. It’s not bad… it’s a sugary good movie about a slacker 20 something’s relationship with hi grandpa… it’s just a little soft to be recommending to people.

Now there is a lot of borderline annoyingly kitschy Twin Cities based dialogue that is far from subtle and the lifestyle is way stereotypical, but hey stereotypes exist for a reason. Talk to the man in the mirror the next time you argue about which city is better while listening to the Replacements on your way north to snowmobile.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

This is a creepy movie about an abandoned kid who grows up with an obsessive super human sense of smell. It’s a unique story and it’s well executed from a technical standpoint. My only complaint is that it’s creepiness is overwhelming to the point where it leaves you disconnected and chili where there should be some empathy and warmth. Worth seeing for sure.
