The Most Underrated Band of the Decade | Califone
Sorry, but I think this ___ of the Decade thing might become a trend.
So as you can see from the giant post below, I’m taking part in a Top Albums Party and that has motivated this post. So far I’ve noticed that a lot of the party has Wilco’s Yankee Foxtrot Hotel as a top album of the decade. Now I don’t contest the fact that YaFoHo is a very likable album, but I don’t know if it deserves credit as the best album of the decade.
To break it down, it bugs me that YFH got all this attention for it’s innovative experimental sound, when Califone has mastered that sound for years. I realize that Wilco may have used this sound and made it more approachable hence making it their own. I just hope that YFH is praised because people like it, not because it innovated sound.
