My Trip to Japan by Food - Day 10 Tokyo (Golden Gai, Shinjuku) | Finally ramen. We found this place Nagi in the coolest little drunken neighborhood in Tokyo. This area of tniy two story buildings is the only area in Shinjuku that wasn’t crushed after to war to rebuild. The area is about 1/4 square mile and packs what we’ve heard, up to 280 bars in that little space. Each place is about 10’ x12’, big enough for a bar and a squeezed in 5-10 bar stools. Nagi was a tiny second floor joint where you pay a machine for your ramen… it had no AC so the hot ramen during the hot summer made for a schweaty, but delicious meal.
